-Oak / Finish-

Supplied in a rough mill sawn surfaces with bandsaw grooves, kiln dried stick marks, scuffs , light twists, cupping and bowing, mill paint remnants, dirty areas or even the odd foot print.. the oak must be planed straight and square then sanded to a fine finish, approx 2-3mm needs to be planed off all sides to reveal the clean prime oak underneath the rough surface. Stick lines (spacers the mill use when drying the oak) can mark the top surface so planing down the 2-3mm is usually recommended to make sure these are gone before finishing.

Note that the final colour can vary very slightly as its a natural oak product but the images are a good representation of the average colour. the finish example shown in pics above is treated in a satin osmo hardwax oil

-finishing & Fitting-

A simple and detailed recommended finishing and fitting information sheet is supplied with your order.

-Placement-

Recommended distances from heat source to a heat shielded mantel to allow for adequate air flow and adhere to current UK building regs.

30cm from inset/cassette stoves, but may be reduced to 25cm if appliance manufacture guidance allows.

or

1.5x the diameter of a wood burner flue. For example, a 4-inch flue would require a distance of 15cm or a 5-inch would require 19cm, etc. The flue is considered a heat source (unless insulated), so the mantel should be placed at a distance, diagonally or vertically measured from the flue to the underside of the mantel shield.

Current building regs stipulate that unshielded mantels require 45cm+ clearance or 3x the flue diameter, so our shielded versions allow around 50% reduction in most cases.

Note: the above is based on UK building regulation guidance and top brand stove manufactures recommendations. You should always refer to your specific appliance manufacturers' guidance for safe clearances to heat shield/deflector mantels as their guidance take precedence .

-TV Heat Protection & Safe Use-

The steel shield acts as an effective heat deflector if you’re looking to position a TV above your fireplace. For effective heat deflection, I recommend a minimum 50mm overhang beyond the front of the TV, measured at its furthest point from the wall. However this is the recommended minimum, if you have a high power burner then it may be worth allowing more overhang. If you require a deeper shelf to accommodate your specific TV dimensions, please get in touch with your required sizing and I will advise on whats possible.

I also recommend approximately 50mm of overhang on each side of the TV, meaning the shelf should ideally be around 100mm wider than the TV.

As with any TV installed above a fire, it would be done at the customers discretion, the customer is responsible for ensuring that the TV is positioned at a safe distance from the heat source and remains within the manufacturer's recommended operating temperature limits, where specified, as heat output and installation conditions vary. I cannot accept responsibility for damage to electronic equipment resulting from inadequate clearances, excessive temperatures or unsuitable positioning. The customer must ensure that the installation is suitable for their particular appliance and TV, taking account of the relevant manufacturers' instructions.

If you have any questions about the product or its suitability for your installation, please do get in touch before ordering.

Thank you :)
